And then I went away and spent most of the day writing, dropping in and out to largely-pleasant kids. Perfect.

We went to the Cotter yesterday (which was just especially/except for the brown snake that happily wandered across the playground!) It was TJ’s first time in/near a river, and he was great! I couldn’t photograph him reaching down to splash the water, because I was holding on to him.  

Another cruising exercise. He reached Panda just fine, but then knocked her onto the floor and could NOT figure out how to get down. Very funny to watch as he executed some lovely Riverdance-style moves with his feet to no avail.

I start a part-time job today (more on THAT later) so here’s TJ’s pic of the day so I don’t forget it later. I swear he’s emotionally bonded with the camera. He HAS seen it more than most of his immediate relatives. . .

We’ve reached a brilliant part of life when I no longer have to stay within arm’s reach of Louisette as she plays on (most) playgrounds). That means that everyone wins – I don’t have to injure myself walking around with TJ in my arms; Louisette gets out more; TJ gets attention in a novel location.Continue reading “Out of (my) hair”

We finally managed to play-test the playground at Canberra Hospital. It might actually be the best playground in Canberra.

TJ’s fighting off another infection, so he’s feeling a bit dopey this morning.

At the moment TJ’s favourite activity is standing against this footstool playing with a toy. But the big news is that he’s finally cut his first two teeth. TJ still loves dolls. He talks to them and flirts with them, and he attempts to eat their heads. I like to think that (with the exception of the cannibalistic enthusiasm) this indicates an empathic side. There’s a new playground in Canberra that’s a lot of fun – and is about 50% wheelchair accessible. . . which means it’s 50% stroller accessible (including part of the main structure, and a merry-go-round, and a MASSIVE swing that would hold about eight adults at once). TJ isn’t technically crawling, but he can certainly move forwards when he wants to – and he knows it. His confidence has exploded and he’s enjoying his new freedom.

It was Louisette’s birthday today, so if you look carefully you can see TJ in the background. Actually, I got a lovely picture of him but another kid (with parents who don’t want photos online) was in frame, and too hard to crop out – bit of a scissors job, when the inevitable scrap-book occurs.

Today is the 20th, so we took the monthly picture of TJ in tux, on mat, with caterpillar. Also, he likes balloons 🙂
